Five Stars
This is one of my favorite quilts. I love the bright fabrics, which are hand-dyes from Starr Designs I developed and maintained Cabin Fever’s website for several years until Patty’s husband wanted to take it over. I taught him how to use the software and helped him convert it. She gave me a gift certificate, and I bought a Starr Designs kit for a Trip Around the World quilt. The problem was that I later decided I wanted to make a bedspread for our bed and there wasn’t enough fabric. So I started buying more fabric pieces and figuring out how to make it bigger. The paper-pieced stars down the center started as one star, obviously not enough, which grew to 5. Gary thought a quilt would be too heavy so I made it first as a duvet cover with down blankets inside. That didn’t work and it eventually evolved into the quilt I wanted from the beginning. Because it’s so big, I had Fran Claassens quilt it for me. I used wool batting so it’s not too hot or heavy. While I was sewing on the binding, I didn’t realize Dodger, still a puppy, was chewing on the border, so I had to patch it. Fortunately, it doesn’t show unless you know where to look. It looks good on the bed.
